Presentándome (Introducing me)

 Llevo 22 años presentándome y todavía me cuesta hacerlo, que si nombre, edad, qué estudio o he estudiado, mis gustos y qué tengo planteado para mi futuro. Tanta información que es tan fácil y a la vez tan difícil...pero bueno supongo que es algo necesario cuando llegas a un lugar totalmente nuevo y desconocido, así que allá vamos.

Me llamo María, tengo 22 años y soy de Valladolid desde el día que nací vaya. Desde que tengo recuerdos siempre me han interesado las lenguas, especialmente el inglés. Me encantaba empezar a ver series o películas en idioma original aunque con subtítulos claro. También me gustaba todo el tema de la docencia. Siempre veía a esos profesores que me marcaban a mi y a mis compañeros y pensaba: "Ojalá llegar a ser en un futuro esa profesora a la que te dan ganas de ir a su clase, escuchar y aprender. Esa profesora a la que sientes que puedes hablar o preguntar dudas sin ningún tipo de miedo y que sabes que te va a ayudar sin prejuicios por muy estúpida que pueda parecer la pregunta." Por lo que supongo que tuve la suerte de saber desde pequeña lo que me gustaba y quería hacer en un futuro. 

Con el paso de los años fui afianzándome en esos gustos y teniéndolo muy claro a pesar de que, bueno, a algunas personas no les pareciera la mejor idea estudiar Filología Inglesa porque no tenía tantas salidas como ser médico o enfermera. Aún así, yo seguía a lo mío y tras terminar la EBAU, entré en el Grado de Estudios Ingleses de la Universidad de Valladolid. Puedo decir que es un grado en el que mucha gente entra sin tener ni idea de lo que en realidad vas a estudiar. Muchos piensan que es aprender los verbos, vocabulario, un poco de historia y cuatro listenings. Por eso, cuando ven que el grado se da todo en inglés, que hay mucha literatura, historia, fonética y gramática avanzada, decide dejarla porque no se lo esperaban. En mi caso, puedo decir que no me arrepiento para nada de haber estudiado esta carrera ya que me ha proporcionado conocimientos sobre esta lengua que por mi cuenta igual no hubiera conocido. También me ha ayudado a empaparme de su maldita fonética, tan odiada y amada a la vez, y conocer su gramática de una manera que no esperaba. 

Gracias a la carrera también pude hacer un Erasmus en Polonia. Sí, Polonia. Pensaréis: "Pero María, estás estudiando Inglés. ¿Qué haces en Polonia?" Bueno, pues la verdad es que ni yo tengo explicación. Solo se que me dio la oportunidad de practicar el inglés con absolutamente todo el mundo, ya que el polaco no es nada fácil. Pero también me enseñó un poco de su idioma y costumbres. Y, no nos engañemos, también me facilitó conocer mucho otros países de Europa. Por último, también me ayudó mucho en el tema de la docencia, ya que todos mis amigos españoles me pedían ayuda con sus trabajos o clases porque eran en inglés. Así que, ahí estaba yo, la profesora particular de todos mis amigos de la residencia. 

Al terminar la carrera, tenía claro dos cosas: que quería seguir con el inglés y con la docencia. Por lo que la respuesta era fácil. Meterme en el Máster de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria con especialidad de Inglés. Así que aquí estoy, con ganas, nervios y motivación por lo que puede enseñarme y ofrecerme este Máster. Se que, en temas de experiencia, tengo muy poca. Como mucho un par de clases particulares y ayudar a mis amigos. Pero también se que me queda mucha trayectoria aún. Como decía una de mis profesoras de la carrera: "Education is a lifelong process." Así que tengo muchas ganas de vivir ese proceso durante toda mi vida.

I have been introducing myself for 22 years and I still find it hard to do it, such as my name, age, what I study or have studied, my tastes and what I have planned for my future. So much information that is so easy and at the same time so difficult...but well I guess it is something necessary when you arrive to a totally new and unknown place, so here we go.

My name is María, I am 22 years old and I am from Valladolid since the day I was born. For as long as I can remember I have always been interested in languages, especially English. I loved to start watching series or movies in the original language but with subtitles of course. I also liked the whole teaching thing. I always saw those teachers who marked me and my classmates and I thought: "I wish I could be that teacher in the future that makes you want to go to her class, listen and learn. That teacher to whom you feel you can talk to or ask questions without any fear and who you know will help you without prejudice no matter how stupid the question may seem." So I guess I was lucky enough to know from a young age what I liked and wanted to do in the future.

As the years went by, I became more and more convinced of those tastes and had a clear idea, even though, well, some people didn't think it was the best idea to study English Philology because it didn't have as many opportunities as being a doctor or a nurse. Even so, I kept on doing my thing and after finishing the EBAU, I entered the Degree in English Studies at the University of Valladolid. I can say that it is a degree in which many people enter without having any idea of what you are actually going to study. Many think that it is just learning verbs, vocabulary, a bit of history and four listenings. That's why, when they see that the degree is all in English, that there is a lot of literature, history, phonetics and advanced grammar, they decide to drop out because they didn't expect it. In my case, I can say that I do not regret at all having studied this degree because it has given me knowledge about this language that I would not have known on my own. It has also helped me to soak up its damn phonetics, so hated and loved at the same time, and to know its grammar in a way I did not expect.

Thanks to my degree I was also able to do an Erasmus in Poland. Yes, Poland. You may think: "But Maria, you are studying English, what are you doing in Poland?" Well, the truth is that even I don't have an explanation. I only know that it gave me the opportunity to practice English with absolutely everyone, since Polish is not easy at all. But it also taught me a bit of their language and customs. And, let's not kid ourselves, it also made it much easier for me to get to know other countries in Europe. Finally, it also helped me a lot in teaching, since all my Spanish friends asked me to help them with their work or classes because they were in English. So, there I was, the private teacher of all my friends in the dormitory.

When I finished my degree, I was certain about two things: that I wanted to pursue English and teaching. So the answer was easy. To get into the Master's Degree in Compulsory Secondary Education with a specialization in English. So here I am, eager, nervous and motivated for what this Master can teach me and offer me. I know that, in terms of experience, I have very little. At most a couple of private classes and helping my friends. But I also know that I still have a long way to go. As one of my professors said: "Education is a lifelong process". So I'm looking forward to living that process throughout my life.
